NICHOLAS FITTON
Nicholas maintains an in-person and virtual teaching studio with students of all ages and abilities. He creates a safe space to explore the fundamentals of flute and piccolo playing from the enthusiast to the consummate professional. Exploration of a flutist's sound through vocal technique is his specialty. Having experienced and recovered from a performance-related injury, he is particularly attentive to the physicality of playing the flute and advocates to his students the importance of posture, relaxation, and wellness to promote a lifetime of healthy flute playing.
Each new student receives a free consultation lesson to discuss their goals in taking lessons or what they want to achieve in coaching sessions.

While preparing for my last big audition, I immediately knew I wanted to work with Nick on both flute and piccolo. He has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience with preparing for orchestral auditions, and especially helped me to improve my piccolo playing and excerpts. I came to him struggling with piccolo sound after a long playing break, and he helped me transform my sound and helped bring me back to playing with ease and confidence. He even set up an in-depth mock audition to help me turn on the nerves and simulate an actual round as closely as possible, and provided incredibly valuable feedback and a thoughtful plan for the actual audition day. As a result, I felt very prepared for all aspects of the audition and played a round I felt proud of (which I wasn’t sure was possible after such a long playing break!).
